This Ethics position paper provides practical guidelines for interpreting, adopting and implementing the Association’s position on the ethics of dissolution or closing of a history museum.

It addresses the responsibilities of the governing staff, the protection of the collections and endowment, the specific legal requirements for history museums, and the obligations from the museum community at large.

The paper provides guidance to both those institutions facing the prospect of dissolution and those having to deal with a closing in their community.
