As more historical societies, history museums, and other cultural heritage institutions enter the digital age by placing collections online, staff is now managing digital materials in addition to traditional collections.

Curators, conservators and collections managers must also find new sources of revenue or redirect existing budget lines to steward these digital collections.

The Northeast Document Conservation Center began a project to assist institutions in their digital preservation endeavors by conducting a Digital Preservation Readiness Assessment.

The NEDCC also offers two educational events that offer help to those institutions that need training and information about best practices in digitizing collections.
