Being proactive is key to planning for unanticipated emergencies. Developing a sound emergency response plan will help staff address the unthinkable if and when it happens.
The Orange Country Regional History Center’s offsite storage emergency plan provides general guidelines for dealing with emergencies as well as the contact information for responders. It outlines the types of potential emergencies with the appropriate response for each situation, including natural disasters, such as hurricanes and floods, and more common emergencies, such as power outages and accidental damage.
This plan is easily adaptable to other off-site storage facilities and can also serve as a model for developing an emergency response plan for an institution’s primary storage facility.
