An important element of any records management program is the records center.

This facility provides low-cost storage and service for records which are no longer needed in active office locations.

As such, it is an intermediate stage in the life cycle of records whose disposition may also ultimately include microfilming, transfer to an archives, or, most often, destruction.

This leaflet provides guidance in the basics of records center operations, detailing necessary policies and procedures, services, and forms, as well as describing shelf numbering, storage boxes, reference and retrieval, and automation.
