The 2008 recession created an uncertain future for numerous museums and history organizations.

The New England Museum Association published this report to show museum leaders the common ways museums are affected by the recession, allow directors a chance to share in their peers’ experiences, and to provide ideas for institutional change that could help organizations emerge stronger than they were before the recession.

This report is useful for museum leaders facing economic hardship and tough decisions at their respective organizations.

Kate Veins does not downplay the recession’s effect on museums but she provides a fresh perspective on how to cope during times of economic hardship and discusses the need for more sustainable economic practices.
