Carol Kammen speaks on the loss that occurs during and after a natural disaster and the role local historians should play in helping rebuild the community.

This includes tasks such as analyzing the importance of a site to the community and to collecting current stories and publications surrounding the disaster.

Kammen says ideally all this work will produce a desire to build an institution that views its membership as the community itself and that helps residents see their own lives as adding to the shared memory of the community’s history.
