The Northern States Conservation Center focuses on providing practical solutions to common collections care problems.

This website provides a wealth of information to answer collections care queries. Topics range from general collections care, security, exhibiting, handling, storing, and cleaning objects.

Useful information and guides can be downloaded for free, such as the Center’s monthly eNewsletters and sample condition and treatment documents for objects the Center has conserved.

Professionals will find the “Care by Type” resource particularly useful as it lists specific objects in alphabetical order with information on how to care for these objects and additional resources to reference.

The Center’s conservation philosophy helps to improve the entire collection by employing a phased conservation process. Through this process, staff assesses the current environment, devises a plan of action to address problem areas, surveys specific collection objects, and develops and performs treatment as needed.
