The Museum Assessment Program (MAP) is coordinated by the American Alliance of Museums. MAP helps small and mid-sized museums strengthen operations, plan for the future and meet national standards through self-study and a site visit from a peer reviewer.

The program offers four assessments:

  • Organizational
  • Collections Stewardship
  • Community Engagement
  • Leadership (full cost only)

Non-competitive grants are available for three of the assessment types and provide $4,000 of consultative resources and services to participating museums. The grants are funded by IMLS.

MAP assessments are a logical next step for organizations taking part in AASLH’s StEPs program.
