America has a vast and rich history preserved in collections all over the country.

From sound recordings to books, manuscripts to historical objects, art works to photographs, these collections inform research, education and public programming.

NEH funds preservation and accessibility projects for these assets through a grant program called the Humanities Collections and Reference Resources.

Prior to this study, the effectiveness of these preservation projects had not been assessed thoroughly.

This report outlines the success of the program in making America’s cultural collections available to scholars, educators, students, and the general public.
