After attending a roundtable discussion about four  website projects presented at AASLH’s 2006 annual meeting in Pittsburgh, Tim Grove spoke with panelist Chad Wollerton about Monticello’s Monticello Explorer.

Monticello Explorer is a way to expand the typical guided tour and allow virtual visitors to explore rooms not open to the public.

Visitors can take two narrated tours on the Explorer site and each tour has 11 to 13 stops within the floor plan of Jefferson’s home.

Users can also utilize the “Explore” option where they can walk through a 3-D model of the house.

Grove provides a discussion for the success of the site and how Monticello ensured the site was engaging and usable.
