Guest columnist Jasper Visser shares some insight from his institution as an example of a museum that has embraced new media and technology as core practice.

His museum, the Museum of National History of the Netherlands is a new museum with no building or permanent collections.

His suggestions include go where your audience is, create engaging narrative, serve as a platform and focus on participation as examples of new media initiatives for institutions, even those without a front door.

Although the Museum of National History of the Netherlands has closed since the publication of this column, the insight into unique ways to present history can still inspire creativity in readers’ own work.
