Tree thumbnailField trips to historic sites became more popular in the 1960s and 1970s with the reexamination of the teaching/learning process at the time.

Paul L. Benedict explains ways to craft meaningful experiences for students on field trips that meet the curriculum and standards of schools when this leaflet was written in 1971.

Benedict provides planning guidelines and steps for implementing a field trip program. Included is a case study of the Van Cortland Manor in the Hudson River Valley’s field trip program.

The case study overviews the educational materials the manor used to create an interactive experience for children and the activities they completed while visiting.
