As communities across the United States experience rapid changes in their traditional economic bases and ways of life, they often turn to heritage tourism as an important opportunity.

The AASLH and National Trust for Historic Preservation are active participants in heritage tourism, through publications, workshops, and technical assistance.

This publication provides thinking about heritage tourism in 1994.

The three articles included address key issues such as: How important is this growing phenomenon? How do we responsibly marry history and preservation with tourism? What are the opportunities for historical societies, museum properties, preservation groups and other community organizations? How do we prepare and participate effectively?
