This article addresses the anniversary of the Civil War and what role history organizations should play in recognizing it.

The AASLH has taken the lead in providing the best ways to commemorate the war and make suggestions for other museums and historical societies to implement in their communities.

These suggestions include: emphasizing the entire 150 years since the war, not just the war itself, allowing visitors to have open discourse regarding the war, and respect hear and engage all groups interested in the sesquicentennial commemoration.
