Tree thumbnailRainey Tisdale reviews and discusses Steven Conn’s book Do Museums Still Need Objects? and poses the same question to history museums.

She posits the following:

  1. We need object now more than ever
  2. We don’t need objects unless we do something great with them
  3. We may not need the ones we’ve already collected
  4. We don’t all need the same ones
  5. We need to restore the links between objects and places
  6. We need a different model for access.

Tisdale ends the article with encouragement to fellow history and museum professionals that the objects we curate and are passionate about, are indeed important.
