While local governments face challenges in managing current records, there is also the equally challenging responsibility to house and maintain historically valuable records properly.

Typically, archival records constitute less that five percent of all local government records.

They nevertheless require special attention in selection, maintenance, preservation, and access which is quite different from the treatment of other local government records.

This leaflet will concentrate upon the archival records created by local governments during the normal course of this business activities.
