The Nohwike’ Bagowa Museum and the Fort Apache Historic Park won an AASLH Award of Merit in 2005 for the interpretative concept Transitions in the Apache World: The Fort Apache Legacy.

Transitions is composed of two exhibitions and permanent signage for an interpretative trail throughout the Fort Apache National Register Historic District.

The two exhibitions, Ndee Bike/Footprints of the Apache and The Fort Apache Legacy are part of the museum’s efforts to bring ownership back to the service of the Apache people.

The exhibits and interpretative trail interpret the culture of the Apache people from the Apache perspective and the history of the fort during its occupation.

These efforts are the first in a campaign to restore and stabilize the historic structures of the site.
